Colorado Session: Locsin Family

Happy Friday!

I had the honor to document this amazing family session (so get ready for picture overload! ha ha!) while I was temporarily living in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. As most of you know, I absolutely ADORE family sessions!!! The Locsin Family was a joy to photograph! I’ve known this sweet momma, Kacey for quite some time now. I used to work at the Aspen/Snowmass Ski Resort ticket office for one ski season years ago and Kacey was my awesome boss at the time. The Locsin’s have the sweetest, little 18-month-old daughter, Zoe. :)

I have a little story to share with you all during the time I was working for the ski company. This seemingly LONG story, lead me to the start of my photography business. On one of my days off work, I went out snowboarding for the first time with a snowboard HELMET(that I received as a Christmas present from a nanny family I was working with at the time), and decided to try out a few mini ski jumps. So the first time down the mountain, I tried one jump (there was a set of three jumps in a row) and I cleared the first jump and was pretty confident and that I was invincible because I was wearing a snowboard helmet. Then my second round down the mountain, I cleared the first, and then the second jump…and got a little, well A LOT sketched out about attempting the third jump (this jump shot straight upwards…and I thought, “YIKES!”)…as I steered away from the jump, I then decided at the last minute go over the jump…because I was invincible and could ACHIEVE anything with this new helmet of mine, RIGHT? ;) So the dare devil in me steered me right back toward the third jump…and let me tell you, it was a straight up shot…where I thought I was going to MOON! YIKES!!! I then realized the LOW CONFIDENCE I HAD IN MYSELF, because I looked downwards toward the ground and thought I was en flight on an airplane, headed towards Denver. HAHA. ;) :) I thought, '“OH NO!!!” …and as I’m freaking out mid-air, I decided it was ME vs. my SNOWBOARD and instead of keeping my board straight forward to achieve landing the jump, I twisted my hips and brought the snowboard so I would land on the back edge (this = BAD NEWS) and when I landed, I tried to snowplow to come to a stop, (BREAKING!!!)…I broke my knee (tore my ACL and a partial meniscal tear) landing roughly at a 45 degree angle and with the impact from landing plus pull of gravity, it pulled my left knee diagonally downwards at a 45 degree angle…then, I heard the worst POP you could ever hear and I immediately knew this was my ACL tear. It’s one of the worst possible ligament tears you could encounter. I did, however, think short while after the accident….“Where was my knee helmet?” …(ha ha ha…catch the dry humor?) ;) It clearly was a full ACL tear. Highly NOT recommended to repeat my mistake if you’re a snowboarder. The LONG recovery time from my ACL/meniscal repair surgery, is what lead me to where I am now in the photo industry.

Anyways, long story short, after this snowboard accident, I had met another AMAZING friend and photographer, Shannon Gray, who inspired and encouraged me to start up my own photography business. In the process of starting my photography business, I continued working in the ticket office at Aspen/Snowmass Ski Resort and I remember sharing with Kacey, my new adventure I was taking on with photography…(side note: NOT ON A SNOWBOARD). ;) Photography has lead me to new adventures and I honestly have LOVED this passion of mine and am seriously HONORED to have photographed this sweet friend, Kacey and her beautiful family again! I feel blessed with what I do and I want to share with you all their lovely photo session. I still to this day, snowboard…only on powder days…because if you fall, you land in a good dusting of powder…less impact, and SOFT landing. HAHA! ;)

Have a blessed Friday and Enjoy!

Cheers,

Anne
